Welcome! My name is Malia Oshiro and I’m honored to be your child’s English teacher this year. A few things about me:

  • This is my fifth year of teaching
  • I have previously taught 7th, 9th, 10th and 11th grades
  • I’m a proud first generation college student and graduate of PLU (B.A. in Education) and Walden University (M.S. in Teacher Leadership)
  • Classroom expectations: work hard, be nice, have fun

This year, we will be focusing on developing reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. This will be done through a combination of individual reflection and group work.

As stated on our common syllabus, summative work is worth 80% of a student’s grade and formative work is worth 20% of their grade. Students will also receive a mid-quarter progress report if their grade is 70% or below.

I’m available to meet before school (7:00-7:30) or after school (2:10-2:40) if an individual student conference is necessary. You are always welcome to call and leave a message on the classroom phone or send me an email. I greatly appreciate your partnership in ensuring your student’s success this year!

Best,

Malia Oshiro
