CURRENT ASSIGNMENTS TO TURN IN:

  • 10/20: "CW: Conflict in DoI" Reread pp. 82-84. Then, identify the conflict(s) each character/group of characters face. State whether the conflict is internal or external, and provide a quote that supports the conflict you've identified. There may be more than one conflict for each character/group of characters! (1. Speaker and her sisters; 2. Mami; 3. Papi.) Due at the end of class. LAST DAY TO TURN IN 10/25.
  • 10/20: "CW: Magi Theme" Canvas assignment: Writing a paragraph identifying a sophisticated theme. LAST DAY TO TURN IN 10/25.
  • 10/19: "CW: Magi Vocab" Canvas assignment: looking up specific definitions. LAST DAY TO TURN IN 10/23.
  • 10/18: "CW: Magi Questions" Canvas assignment: responding to questions after finishing the short story. LAST DAY TO TURN IN 10/23.

  • 10/12: "RSM: Character" Canvas assignment: writing a paragraph that identifies theme and character type.
  • 10/12: "Conflicts in Memphis" Canvas assignment identifying the conflicts faced in the short story.
  • 10/10: "CW: CoA Character" Canvas assignment analyzing the types of characters Montresor and Fortunato are. 
  • 10/9: "CW: CoA Mood" Working in-class, completing the worksheet that identifies the mood from four different passages. 
  • 10/5: "CW: CoA Conflict" Working in-class, completing the worksheet that identifies three specific conflicts from selected passages. 
  • 10/3: "CW: CoA Foreshadowing" Working in-class: rereading pp.347-348, identifying three quotes from the narrator that hint what he might do to his frenemy, write an inference of what you think will happen. 
  • 9/26: "CW: Sound of Thunder" Working in-class on questions #1-5, 7, and 8 on page 48. Due by the end of the period, Tuesday, 9/26. 
  • 9/22: "CW: Suspense" working in-class on reading & annotating short passages, identify strongest examples of suspense. If this isn't completed by the end of the period, it is homework, due Monday 9/25. 
  • 9/21: In-class revisions on "CW: Foreshadowing" due by the end of the period. Revised grades will replace the current grade. 
  • 9/19: "CW: Conflict" working in-class on reading & annotating short passages, identify strongest examples of conflict. If this isn't completed by the end of the period, it is homework, due Thursday, 9/21. 
  • 9/15: "CW: Foreshadowing" worksheet due at the end of the period where you wrote down examples of foreshadowing in the left-hand column, and then said what each example hinted at in the right. Turn in at the end of the period. 
  • 9/15: "CW: The Most Dangerous Game" worksheet on the S:, questions about the short story. Title of the document is "The Most Dangerous Game."
  • 9/12: "HW: Themes from Songs" students had to choose a song, identify the topic, write down the theme, and pull evidence from the song that proves the lesson you found. 
  • 9/8: "CW: Collage" Identity collage. 
  • 9/1: "CW: Name Write" One-page essay about the background of your name.
  • 9/1: "PT: Truths and Lie Presentation" In-class presentations of students' two truths and a lie. PARTICIPATION CANNOT BE MADE UP UNLESS ABSENCE IS SCHOOL-RELATED.
  • 8/31: "CW: Student Info" General survey and questions about student preferences, contact, etc. 

Accessing the eBook

You can access our textbook online. Yay!

Steps for accessing the online textbook:

  1. Go to classzone.com
  2. Select "Language Arts: High School" under "Select Your Subject"
  3. Select "Washington" under "Select Your Location"
  4. Click on "Go" under "Find Your Book."
  5. Select the first textbook "McDougal Littell Literature, Grade 9"
  6. Click on the link toward the bottom on the left that says "Online Book"
  7. Click on "Create Student Account" (link towards the right side of the page)
  8. Enter the activation code 95134379-10. (the final "10" goes after the -)
  9. Create a student account.

You should use the online book any time you need to complete an assignment that you weren't able to complete in class that required details or quotes from a text.
