Hey y'all,

its been raining like CRAZY all week! But on the other hand, this week has been also very fun! We are now making our own narratives based on the book we have been reading, Esperanza Rising. It has been a very fun week. Samantha  and Andres both won for class representative. Also remember that we have a concert next week on Thursday! :)

Updates: 10/30-11/2
Posted by Molly Artz on October 30, 2017 at 5:19pm

A couple reminders for the week:

  1. Tomorrow we will be watching Holes in the afternoon. If students would like to bring as healthy snack to share they may. Although it is not required!
  2. We are having a field trip on Thursday 11/2. The majority of the trip will be outside so please make sure your student is dressed in warm, waterproof clothing! They may want to bring a change of socks & shoes for when they return to school. Also students will need to pack a sack lunch for the day!
  3. There will be no school for students on Friday 11/3.
  4. Please check the class website’s calendar for homework. Students will be taking a writing assessment next week on Esperanza Rising. It is important that students have tags in their book to help them be successful!

Let me know if you have any questions!

Important Updates!
Posted by Molly Artz on October 24, 2017 at 7:21pm

This was sent out as an email. If you did not receive it, please email Ms. Artz so that you can be added to the class email list!

Hi all-

It was great to talk with most of you the past few days of conferences. A few important updates!

  1. Our class website is now accessible from the Soos Creek website’s staff directory.. Here is the direct link as well: If you are ever unsure of homework please check the calendar.

  1. I gave most all of you your student’s login for Khan Academy. If you have misplaced it please let me know. On nights your student does not get paper math homework, please have them spend about 30 minutes on Khan Academy working on math lessons.

  1. Lastly, it is important that all students are reading at least 30 minutes daily of any book or reading material that is interesting to them! I typically recommend that students get in the habit of reading before they go to bed each night! Students are welcome to borrow my books to bring home as well as their school library books.

  1. We still have some spots for chaperones for our field trip on November 2, next Thursday. Please let me know if you are interested!

As always, don’t hesitate to reach out with questions!

Winter Break
Posted by Molly Artz on December 15, 2016 at 8:23am

I am sending home a reading log for students to track their reading minutes over Winter Break. I am expecting each student reads at least 300 minutes over break. If your student runs out of books they can check out books online from King County Library System, and read on a tablet, phone, or computer. The information how to do so can be found on our class website.

Also please look at our class website for other online resources students can use over break. It would be great to see students making progress on as well as practicing typing on EasyTech Typing. If you are looking for any further activities for your student over break, please send me an email and I’d be happy to give you some more resources!

I hope you all enjoy the break!

Ms.Artz Classroom News
Posted by Molly Artz on November 30, 2016 at 3:00pm

This week we have been doing a lot! In math we have been learning about rounding numbers. In ELA we have been working on our scripts from the novel Esperanza Rising. Each student was placed in a group and each group was given a article from the UDHR. Then they all chose a passage from Esperanza Rising to write a scene based on their script. Then all of the members of the group mash up their scenes into one big script. In science we have been learning about planets such as the moon and the earth.
